Word document not printing

S

SpaceApe

I am trying to print a 10 MB word document on "HP Laserjet 2300 PS"
printer. I am using Win xp.

The document contains tables, tables in the tables and pictures
(coloured /black and white/shaded).

Whenever, I try to print the doc system hangs. Status of job in printer
is shown as "Spooling" and it doesn't change.

Word crashes and I have to restart MS Word.

The document is not used by anyone but me.
Sys admin has got tight virus protection. and I do not find virus
activity.

The same document had been printing alright till today morning.

Has anybody come across this kind of problem. (I know there must be
many out there!!!).

Please help me.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

When you say "Word crashes", does that mean Microsoft Word quits unexpectedly or does Microsoft Word freeze up
(i.e. you can't do anything in Microsoft Word)?

Just what I thought.

Do you know what "Background printing" is?

Whether you do or not, you probably have it disabled.

Background printing:
"Prints documents in the background, allowing you to continue to work while you print. This option uses more
available memory. If printing becomes unacceptably slow, clear this option."

It is normal for Microsoft Word to freeze when background printing is disabled and a document is printed.
Microsoft Word will unfreeze when the print job is done.

To re-enable background printing:

Click the "Tools" menu and then click on "Options..."

Click on the "Print" tab. It may take 3 to 15 seconds to display this tab. This is normal.

In the "Printing Options" section (at the top), look to the right and find the "Background printing" option.
Place a check in the checkbox to the left of the text to enable this option.

Click "OK" when done.

Print your document again by choosing "Print..." from the "File" menu.

If background printing is enabled and Microsoft Word still freezes when you print your document, please reply
to let us (the readers in this newsgroup) know. If this is the case, it may help to know what printer you are
using (make and model number).

Timothy,

Thanks a lot for reply. I came to know a lot.
However, when I checked as per your instructions I found that
background printing has been already enabled!

So, the last paragrpah of your message is applicable here.

[If background printing is enabled and Microsoft Word still freezes
when you print your document, please reply
to let us (the readers in this newsgroup) know. If this is the case, it
may help to know what printer you are
using (make and model number).]

I have already mentioned the printer's details in my first message.

Link doesn't work. Thanks for reply.

I found it easier to break the document after every 20 pages and print.
