All my documents have changed their looks when i press the
space bar it comes up with dots in the middle of the line
and when i hit the return key it produces a symbol of 2
lines close together with a ball to the top left also lots
of arrows which i think are where i have used my tabs in
the old documents.

Please someone help!!!!

Look at the symbol that comes up when you press the Enter key. Now look on
your toolbars for a similar symbol and click it. You are seeing non-printing
characters that are very useful for figuring out formatting.

Those are non-printing marks that show you definitively where spaces (the
dots), carriage returns (the paragraph symbol), tabs (the arrows) and other
items exist in your document. Many users find them useful, since they can
help explain oddities in documents.

They can be toggled on/off using Ctrl+Shift+8. They can be controlled
selectively using Tools - Options - View, Formatting Marks section.
