Douglas guided you to the correct group, but this is an easy one. Just
do a save as and select the 97-2003 format.

That works IF you have Word 2007. However, if someone sent you the document,
you will need to have installed the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats
