Word documents slow to open

In our office we are running Word 2002. The computers
are fairly new at 1.9 ghz. and the ram is 512 mb.
Our transcriptionists are complaining that it takes 15
seconds to open a word document. They have a lot of macros
and word correction items in Word.
Is there any way to speed up how fast Word opens
documents?
