word does not open in only 1 profile

for some reason or other, word will no longer open when i
use my primary administrator profile. When i try to open
it it opens the initial word window, then gives me an
error message stating that Word has encountered an error
and will now close. do i want to send the error report?

when i first sent teh error report it said there was an
update to fix this. i installed the updates, but it still
doesn't work. now after sending the error report it does
nothing.

when i tried to use the online support option i couldn't
enter the license since i can't get in to word to find it!

the other profiles on this machine have no problem with
word, only my profile. this has started very all of a
sudden. any ideas???

It does help to know which version of Word and Windows you are using... but
being a practised clairvoyant, the problem is the normal.dot belonging to
the Administrator Profile is corrupt. It will be in the Documents & Settings
folder under the appropriate user profile under Applications, Microsoft,
Templates. Find the corrupt normal.dot and rename it as normal.bad.

and as if by magic, it all worked again!

thanks terry!

i had actually just done that (really i created a new
normal.dot and then pasted it in) and jumped on to check,
and there, you in all your clairvoyance, had managed to
solve my problem as well!

have a happy holiday season, and thanks again!

Depending on how you "created" the new Normal.dot, you may have caused
further problems. Documents are made by fools like us, but only Word can
make Normal.dot. <g>
