Word draws window in wrong location

D

Dan

I have a machine that on seemingly random occasions draws
maximized Word windows about an inch and a half from the
top of the monitor. The real problem is that the bottom
of the window is "drawn" off the monitor and so you can
sometimes not access the scroll bar as it is off screen.
Or if your cursor is to low in the window, you can not
see what you are typing / trying to edit. Inevitabley
once Word is closed and reopened a few times, it figures
out where the top of the monitor really is.

This is on a XP machine with Office 2003. I have tried
reinstalling Office and have also written a macro to
position the window at Top:=0 but neither helped.

Hi Dan,

You might try zapping the Data key for Word in the Registry since that
is where the window position is stored:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Data

Word will create the key using the default settings.

As always, prior to making any changes to the Registry you should
review "Backing up the Registry" and "Restoring the Registry" in the
Registry Help.

In this situation you may want to use the Registry/Export Registry
file command, export your selected branch, and delete the key. That
way if you find the change wasn't necessary or incorrect, you can
merge the deleted branch back to the Registry by double-clicking the
resulting file.

Also note you need to exit Word, and Outlook if using Word as the
email editor, before deleting/renaming the key.
