Word Drop-Down Cannot Select First Choice

Greetings! Am using MS Word 2003 SP2 (Office 2003 Professional) in XP
Pro

I created an online form using the Forms Toolbar, with several
drop-down fields. The form works great on every machine except one.
On this particular machine, the user is unable to select the first
choice in any drop-down field. I have tried the following in an
attempt to correct this problem:

1. Double-checked that all critical updates have been installed from
Microsoft's Office Update.
2. Deleted normal.dot and restarted Word, confirmed new normal.dot was
created.
3. Successfully detected and repaired Office.
4. Confirmed that this problem exists even on a new form created on
the problem machine or an unaffected machine.

I have dilligently searched the MS Knowledgebase and Google groups, to
no avail. I have created a workaround by adding a choice of a blank in
the first spot on each dropdown, but this is tedious. I now throw
myself upon the mercy of the group in an effort to find a real
solution. Thank you in advance for any suggestions you may have!
