Word editor is grayed out in the options for Mail Format

I am currently using Offcie 2003 and cannot get the grammar function. Why is
the option not available?

about not using Word as the editor?

It is a home computer and I purchased Office 2003 about 3 months ago. Any
usggestions willb e appreacited.
