I just installed the latest word security upgrades. Now
when trying to open any word document it gives me the
message "The file is not available." I can open the
document in word pad but no document will open in the
word program.

Then when trying to close the program even if no document
is visible I receive this message. "the file normal
already exists do you want to replace the existing file?"

I have tried repair twice in the add remove section and
still no correction.

Disable the Office Plugin that comes with Symantec/Norton AntiVirus.

Thanks so much for the helpful troubleshooting. I completely removed the
program you suggested as well as several other that I was not using and my
speed increased proportionally and my word problems went away. I still have
not heard from Microsoft after two submissions and one week worth of time on
this issue.
