Word Encountered file corruption

I am getting an error message that says"word encountered
file corruption while opening C:\documents and
settings\...normal.dot". When I click on "Word", it opens
with a document that I created on 3/31. It opens
sometimes with 2 documents. I have tried the following:
1. Deleting the documents
2. Trying a "fix" of Microsoft Office 2000(Small Office)
3. Working off of the Office 2000 CD
I get the same error each time.
HELP! How do get this problem resolved.
