Word error "File could not be found"

Office version: XP sp2
OS: WinXP sp1

Problem:
I am trying to open a word file thats on a website using
Internet Explorer, and I get the error
"File could not be found
Try one or more of the following
*Check the spelling of the name of the document
*Try a different file name
(C:\..\filename..)"

Works OK if word is already up and running.
I tried deleting normal.dot but still dosen't help.

Anyone knows how to fix it?

You probably need to reregister Word (reestablish its association with the
..doc and .dot file types in the Windows Registry). See
