Well after a couple of weeks of trying to figure this one
out we finally fixed the problem. Something went wrong
with Sherry's active directory user set up/permissions on
the network and it also seemed to affect her PC's user set
up/permissions. Originally anywhere on the network that
Sherry logged in and accessed the Word and Excel documents
and tried to link them she would run into the Word file
size going from 25K to over 4M (both files were under
100K). We removed her from the active directory on the
network and then reinstalled her. After this she could
log on any PC but her own and the linking would work
properly. We then removed her user from her own pc and
reinstalled her as a user to her own pc. This corrected
the problem completely. The linked file size is down to
166K as it should be.
