Word, Excel & Powerpoint subdirectory folders will not open ?

Appears that none of the MS Office Std Edition 2003 programs open any
subdirectories. I have used the software successfully for a few years but now
I have re-installed the software and that does not solve the problem. The
software opens to the beginning blank page but when I choose to change to a
subdirectory that has other files, the program will not open the subdirectory
and freezes. I click close and the message tells me the program not
responding. The software will allow me to work in the files that are on the
default subdirectory. I can modify and print and use these files but I
cannot access any subdirectory?

Two things to try:
1. Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows
desktop, left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect
any mapped drives that are not currently available.
