Word file used by "another user" "altro utente"

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I use the Mac in a Microsoft network and every time i save a Word file on the network on the title appears "(read only)" and then when I try to open Word tells me that the file is in use by "another user" ("altro utente" in italian) . Can you help? thanks.

We can't help, but your System Administrator can.

The files you need to open are still locked to someone else, and that may be
because all of your workstations are logging in with the same Unix User ID.

If you tell your System Administrator that much, they should be able to go
straight to the problem.
