Hi Brad,

How are you opening the files? If you are opening the files outside
the application (other than using File/Open) then it sounds like the
file association needs to be recreated.

Go to Start/Run and run the following:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.

Dear Beth:

I'm having exactly the same problem, but your solution
did not work. I can only open my doc's by going through
Word first. I Cannot open them directly. This started
over the weekend. Never had this problem before then.

Hi Bill,

If you are using Word as your email editor in Outlook then you should
exit both Word and Outlook first before running the command.

If this is still a problem then there have been times that I needed to
delete the Registered File Type, restart Windows, and then run the
command.

If you do not know how to delete the file type:

- Open an Exploring window
- Go to Tools/Folder Options
- Select the File Types tab
- Delete the Microsoft Word Documents file type
