When working on a document in Word, a color wheel shows up
and spins. Then everything freezes, and I have to Force
Quit, losing all my changes.

Make sure Office is up to date (10.1.5)
check the hard drive for damage with a dik utility application
repair permissions (Disk Utility in MacOS 10.2/3)


Hopefully, the problem will go away...
