Word for Office 2000

I have office 2000 for past three years with no problems.
Recently, word application will not open and locks the
computer, I have to shut down. I get messages that there
isn' enough disk space ( i have 8 gigabytes free) and/or
that there is some other program operating (there are none
i shut down all those in statrart up) and sometimes a
message that there are not resources available. I have
reinstalled twice with no change. All the other
applications such as excel and power point that are part
of the program work fine. Any help welcome.
