Word Freezes during startup

I'm having a problem with Word 2004 hanging up during startup. Excel,
Powerpoint, and Entourage work fine. My default mail identy works fine.
I've removed the preference files in hopes that it would fix the problem, but
it won't. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe there's a font problem. Word installs a gazillion fonts when you
start it up for the very first time, and these can create font
conflicts. Word is very sensitive to these. Take control of your fonts
(resolve conflicts, use only the minimum required fonts, etc.). You
might also throw out the office fonts cache file. Then try again. m.
