Word freezes when I try to open a file from my documents.

When I try to open a document from My Documents, Word freezes, I get the This
Program is Not REsponding Message and Do You want to send a report. I sent a
report and I was told to down load some updates to Office XP. I did that. I
still can't open a a file out of My Documents.
