Word Freezing issue

The computer is running XP Pro with all the updates and is
running Office XP with all the product updates. Now,
whenever she tries to save a file in Word (and only Word,
the other programs have no issues) and uses the dropdown
menu to navigate to another folder, Word freezes. It
doesn't happen with any other dropdown menus in the save
prompt box, just the navigation dropdown menu. It happens
with all types of files I tried opening. I've come to the
conclusion that I should just reinstall office xp and go
from there and see if that fixes it, but I was hoping
someone had an answer before I resort to such drastic
measures.

This is usually because there's some incorrect file in the directory tree
such as an FTP shortcut or similar. It isn't a Word problem.
