Word Freezing

Hi

We are using word 2000 sr1a on XP. When we open muliple
word documents and try to close one word freezes and we
get 100% CPU usage.

The files are stored on a fileserver. To troubleshooot i
have copied 100+ files locally and still get the same
problem when choosing two files at random.

I have deleted normal.dot but it has made no difference

Thanks

Possibly this may be another manifestation of the Handwriting bug in Windows
XP. Go to Control Panel, Regional and Language settings, Language tab,
Advanced and uninstall handwriting recognition. Does that resolve the
problem?

Thanks for the reply , i have just tried that and it makes no difference. I have tried other applications within office and cannot replicate the problem with them. it only seems to be with word.

Since you don't quote any of the previous message, we don't know what you
just tried, which makes it difficult to suggest anything further.

Check to see if there are any third party macros installed, particularly
AutoClose or similarly names macros. Also, after so many crashes, you will
need to clean up your hard drive: this may be aggravating the problem. See
http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm for more information.
