This is quite complex so please bear with me.
I am using Word 2000 on Windows 2000 server.
I have a master document which contains six subdocuments, all of which are mail merges. When I open the master document, everything merges and all is ok.
The process is part of a system which I am developing and the whole thing is instantiated through a host/shell command from an Oracle application. Still no problem, all this hapens on the win2k server.
The problem comes when I start Word, make the window really small then close it again. I do this so that when the process is kicked off by the Oracle application, the Word window does not interfere with whatever an operator or technician may be doing on the server.
What happens is that the documents all get merged etc. then Word hangs. I have to kill the task to get rid of it. This only happens when the window is set to default to small. If I make the Word wondow bigger, its all ok.
I think there is some bug where Word is trying to repaginate but doesn't like the fact that the visual display is not there.
Any ideas anyone??????
