Word hangs in doc with change tracking

MS Word 2002 (running under XP professional) hangs every
time I open a particular document which I was editing with
change-tracking turned on. No problem opening other
docs. When I open the document in question, the CPU
figure shown in Task Manager jumps to a steady 100%. The
document resides on a LAN drive, but same thing happens
when I open a copy on C:

Sounds like it is getting pretty complex. Any way you can save this version
as a backup and accept the changes to collapse your document to something
close to its final form? Any chance you also have versions turned on for
that document? Fast saves? (Neither of the last two should be on and fast
saves should _never_ be turned on.)
