Word hangs on Windows ME

Hi folks
Of late, I have been experiencing a problem with WOrd 2000
on WIndows ME. I tried uninstalling Office and
reinstalling the application but it has not helped. My
Windows installation is up to date. I am in the process of
updating Office 2000 to the lates service packs. There
have been no hardware/software changes to the machine
prior to this behaviour.
ANy ideas?
