I have 2 networked machines, one running XP, one running Vista Ultimate. Both
run the same edition of Word, Word 2000.
If I try to open DOC files using Word on the Vista machine, it opens some OK
, but not all. With most it hangs at the point "requesting a virus scan."
With RTF files it hangs saying "converting RTF file." Windows says "Program
not responding" but if I wait several minutes, Word comes to life and (a)
opens a blank new file (b) the file I was trying to open appears at the top
of the "recently opened files" list, and if I click it there it opens
instantly. The virus checker is AVG free edition 8.0.176
Any thoughts what to try next gratefully appreciated
