Word Hangs when opening/save as through browser with network conn

Recently my computer started hanging in office 2003 applications (Word and
Excel) whenever I use the File-open or File-Save-as browsers. When I tried to
transverse directories the computer hangs for minutes at a time. I find that
disconnecting the network connection remedies the problem. I also found an
article on the web referring to a Hotfix 810907 that would take care of that
but cannot find it on the MS website.

How do I fix this, is a frustrating problem and I am about to try
reinstalling office 2003 or reimaging the machine from a backup.

Thanks...

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.

Hi Garfield

Thanks for your input. We are experiencing the same thing. I have several
drives mapped on my office network. How can I determine which directories
are not available? In windows explorer it usually shows an X if they are
not, but none of them do. Any suggestions.

That was my problem too. MS Word, Excel, PPT all would hang up or take an
extremely long time when trying to open / save a file. I
uninstalled/reinstalled MS Office 2003 - no luck. I removed the one and only
mapped network drive and the problem went away. Thanks. BB
