Word hangs when using File/Open

Using Word to open a file by clicking on the file works
perfectly, and opening a recent file by clicking on it
also works. However when I attempt to open a file by
clicking on File and then Open, Word stops responding and
I have to use Task Manager to exit it. Whether accessing
a Word document on my local PC or another PC on the
network, I get the same result.

I have tried a new clean Office install without results.

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.

Hi, Tom. If you have any mapped network drives that are not currently available, disconnect them before you click on File | Open.
