"Word has stopped working"

B

BB

Word crashes each time I try to open it, close it, open a file, pretty much
do anything. I've tried deleting suggested registry key, uninstalling and
reinstalling the program, and updating everything. The last time I tried
opening word it asked if I'd like to open in safe mode, and so I did.
Following that I received an error message which stated that building
blocks.dotx had caused serious problems the last time it was opened, and
asked if I would like to continue opening it with word. I have a new Dell
computer that is less than a week old and I can't get any work done. I have
no idea what the problem could be at this point, please help!

You didn't mention deleting normal.dotm. What I would do is close Word,
then:

1. Delete the Data key.

2. Delete Normal.dotm.

3. Delete Building blocks.dotx.

Then open Word and see if everything is now working correctly. Word will
automatically recreate all three.

I am having similar problems, with Word crashing and giving me the blue
screen everytime I launch Word.

I am (unfortunately & against my will) running Vista on a compaq presario
G60 purchased new in February. I had originally used the preloaded 2007 MS
office trials on this system, then later loaded my Office Small Business
Edition 2003 CD. Word was functioning fairly well then my friend cleaned
things up for me last week. Not sure if that was the cause, but shortly
after, Word stopped working properly. I tried to reinstall the SB 2003 from
my CD, but couldn't find my activation code. I then uninstalled everything
Office related that was on the system, and tried downloading an additional
free trial of another 2007 products. I get a popup saying it needs to fun
winword.exe each time I try to launch Word, and after I hit OK---crash!!!!

I'm a novice when it comes to this stuff, so I did as much as I could in the
FAQ, making things worse before they got better, and now I'm back to where I
was--can't open files in word w/o crashing. I don't know how to find &
delete the files as Herb suggested. Can you walk me through it?

I can successfully launch Word in Safe mode however, without any problems.
I can successfully launch Excel & MS Works.

Any suggestions??
Thanks!
