Hi
In word 2007 when I have a page of text font size 12, the line spaces
are size 12 too
If the text won't fit on one page, is it possible to select & reduce
all the line spaces to say font size 8 at once?
I hope you understand what I mean

I'm not sure I do understand. When you say "line space", do you mean you
pressed Enter twice at the end of each paragraph to make a "blank line"?

If so, then that's a bad practice that's put you in a situation without a
good solution. Instead, you should define the paragraph style used for
regular text (usually "Normal" style, but could be another) to have the
proper amount of Space After. Then press Enter only once at the end of each
paragraph. The amount of space between paragraphs will be allowed
automatically -- and to change it, all you have to do is modify the style
definition.

I pasted text into word from an e-mail
The text is font 12 & has a blank line every now and then to create
'white space' or puntuate the story, So it is like the sender pressed
Enter twice at the end of each paragraph to make a "blank line.

This blank lines are font size 12 too

So my question is - is it possible to select & reduce all the line
spaces to say font size 8 at once, while still keeping the the text
font 12?

The solution takes two steps:

- Use Find/Replace to get rid of the "blank lines". Put ^p^p in the Find
What box, put ^p in the Replace With box, and click the Replace All
button. (If that doesn't work, change the Find What box to ^l^l -- those
are lower case ells -- and try again.)

- Modify the Normal style to have 8 pt in the Space After box. That will
affect every paragraph that has the Normal style (or any other style that's
based on the Normal style).

Thank you Jay
Step 1 works fine
But where do I find the Space after box?

(The following assumes you have Word 2003 or earlier; the locations of things
are different in Word 2007.)

On the Format menu, click Styles and Formatting. A task pane appears on the
right, with a list of style names.

Right-click the Normal style and choose Modify. The Modify Style dialog opens,
with "Normal" in the Name box at the top.

Click the Format button in the bottom left corner of the dialog and choose
Paragraph. The Paragraph dialog opens.

In the middle of the dialog, in the section labeled Spacing, there are boxes
labeled Before and After. Click in the After box and type 8 pt .

Click OK in the Paragraph dialog and again in the Modify Style dialog.

This will affect only the current document, unless you check the "Add to
template" box in the Modify Style dialog before clicking OK there. Be careful
not to check the "Automatically update" box -- that causes problems.

Jay, my original message started "In word 2007"

Sorry, you didn't quote the full thread in any of your replies, so that
information didn't get carried along.

In Word 2007, the Normal style appears in the Home ribbon. Right-click it and
choose Modify. The Modify Style dialog appears. Everything else is the same.
