Word is not opening files correctly. It asks for file conversion?

It is also trying to open all documents, including PDF's. It works if I
create a new doc. but will not open up items from the internet.

Word does not/cannot open .pdf files. It sounds like your file associations
are all screwed up.

I suspect you already know there is something wrong with the Word file
associations and you are asking for suggestions on how to fix them.
:) To recreate your file associations for Word, go to Start/Run and
run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.
