word is slow with outlook running

when opening word 2000 .doc with outlook running in background it takes 7 to 10 seconds to open. with outlook closed word opens less then 1 sec. have tried several times with outlook open and closed, always with same results. i am running microsoft xp pro, office 2000, no virus checker running, no other applications running. have not found anything in help files.
anyony else have this problem or knows a cure please advise.

I also have that problem, however only when opening an existing document. Try opening directly through windows, then open your document.

I hope this is of some help. I will also follow to see if there is a better solution.
