When I click on the yellow folder to view my word documents - the documents
are all there - but also have copy after copy after copy of the documents.

It sounds as if someone has checked "Always create backup copy" in the
Tools-Options Save tab. If you create backup copy #1 and then edit the copy,
it will create another copy when you save the backup (and #3, #4, etc.). If
you don't need backups, delete them from the folder and reset the Options by
unchecking "Always create backup copy" in any documents where it is
presently checked.

Word never saves more than one backup copy (as "Backup of <filename>.wbk").
It does create temp files every time you save as long as the document is
open, but these are normally deleted when you close the document.
