Word loading slowly

Like "Tob" and "Mim" before me, Word is suddenly loading
extremely slowing this morning - Jan. 8. It seems to
hang up when the virus scan is requested. I have
downloaded all updates for Office XP and Norton
AntiVirus. I have run a defrag and it doesn't help.

It's the Norton update that is causing your problem. Disable the Office
Plug-in. Other users report that this happens only when they're online, not
when they're disconnected.

Open NAV and disable the office plug-in option.

Hi Allison -

I have been having this same problem for 18 hours. With
Excel also. After much effort I finally called Microsoft
and paid my $35 - but they gave me a fix which works
perfectly. I am assuming you have XP.

1. Search for officeav.dll
2. In my case I found it within Norton Antivirus.
Change the name to officeav.old
3. Search > Run > %appdata%
4. If you find icons named Normal (I found two of them),
delete them
5. Start > Run > winword.exe /safe (note the space
afte exe)
6. This will open Word in Safe Mode. In my case it
reconfigured all the Office programs and I had to put in
the Office XP Professional disk.

After the reconfiguration, everything worked perfectly.

Thanks, Suzanne. I noticed this was am issue in several other conversations, so I disabled the plug-in and everythin appears to be working fine. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the info, Jon. I'm sure there are many here that will find your input most helpful. I had already disabled the Office plug-in, but you're input is more valuable
