Word locks up on opening

I am running Word 2000 as part of Office 2000 Standard,
which upgraded the Works Suite loaded on the computer from
purchase. After a number of boots of Word, the program
then fails to open again. I was told to delete the
normal.dot file and this would fix the problem, it did.
However every so often this must be done again. Is there a
permanent fix or a patch the fixes this problem.

Also, constantly when formatting within a document ie.
bolding a title, the whole document gets bolded. Undoing
fixes this but how can the problem be fixed in the first
place.

If you installed Office after Works Suite, you most likely did *not* replace
Word. Even if you did, however, if you are running Word freestanding (not
starting it from the Works Task Launcher), you need to uninstall the
Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word, which causes many problems in Word,
including dirtying Normal.dot every time Word is opened.
