word lockup but need data

J

J Harrigan

I'm running Word in Office XP on Windows XP Professional.

My machine (brand new) has been locking up intermittently, even to the point
of having to pull the plug to turn it off. Such is not the case currently,
but I do have Word locked up.

Word is 'not responding'. There's a lot of data in the document that's
locked up that I need to save. Is there ANYTHING I can do?

Thanks...Jan

Probably not; Word's autosave and autorecover features do not work very well
(while Excel's do). I make a practice of hitting the save icon, or typing
Ctrl+S, frequently during a Word session so as to minimize any data loss in
case of a crash (but have found that Word XP crashes very seldom).

It's still worth a try to get out of Word however you can. Then reopen it
and autorecover may retrieve some of your work. If you are able to recover
anything, save it immediately before you lose it again.
