Word makes changes in my large doc & won't allow me to correct.

I have a large document that I have formatted. For some reason, on one of my
paragraph headings, Word is "automatically" inserting a ? mark and an arrow
(seems to be acting as a bullet). When I delete the bullet and ? mark and
then save my document and close it, then reopen the document, the ? mark and
the arrow reappears. I cannot seem to get rid of it and I don't know what
Word is trying to tell me.

Check the Style of the paragraph heading that is acting up. It should be the
same as other similar headings in the document. Perhaps changing the style
of this one will resolve the problem. Word has automatic heading styles that
you can apply, but you can also create custom heading styles, or change the
default styles.
