Word makes shortcuts, doesn't save.

My copy of Word won't save my files! When I attempt to save, it simpl
creates a shortcut to that file, without the changes. So right now, m
"My Documents" folder has about 23 shortcuts to a file that won'
update, and have lost my changes. Why can't I save my work

Is it just one file? Is the file protected some how? Where did you get the
file?
