Word merge meassage Projectitem can not be deleted

Hello,

We use a dedicated application in which our clients are registered. It is
possible to choose a client in this application and then choose a template
from a drop-down list in this application so it can merge to a new letter in
WORD 2000.
This works fine, except on one workstation (XP/2000).
On this workstation, after pressing the merge button, WORD opens, the letter
is displayed, but then a WORD-error occurs which says, translated from dutch:
"The Projectitem can not be deleted".
Only the OK button can be pressed but the WORD session hangs and can only be
terminated by the Task Manager.
Is anyone familiar with this error?

It could be an issue with the user's Normal.dot. I'm not familiar with
the Dutch version, but the translated message sounds like it's unable
to delete a temporary macro that is used when you open a document
outside the application or when using automation.

Exit Word and your application, locate Normal.dot and rename it to
OldNormal.dot. Restart Word and a new Normal.dot should be created.
