Word "needs to close" on every attempt to open it????

I get the nasty little box that says...
"Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and
needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience",
every time I try to open WORD. I've uninstalled Office
and reinstalled 3 times, no change. I've talked to
several top IT people very familiar with MS products and
no one seems to know what the problem is, or how to solve
it. Anyone???

Reinstalling rarely helps because it does not overwrite Normal.dot or the
Registry or remove add-ins from the Word or Office Startup folder, and these
are the primary causes of such problems. See
