Word Not responding

Shortly after Roadrunner was installed, I had problems
connecting to websites on the internet and couldn't open
MS Word. The technician there indicated I needed
to update my browser. I went to Windows update and
everything work after the update. Now MS Word is giving
me the same problem. The error message indicates
there is not enough memory to open Word. I defragged and
Reinstalled Word, it didn't work. I used the restoration
disk, it didn't and reinstalled Word, it didn't Work. I
have Windows 98 on my computer. Is there something I'm
missing? I checked the properties for the C: drive I have
15GB of memory left and 3.91GB used

Hello,

Try to open Word this way:
1. Go to Start --> Run
2. Type in winword /a (give a space before /), click OK
3. At this point Word should open. Are you able to open
Word? If yes - close out of Word and follow

1. Start --> Find --> type in normal.dot make sure you
are searching your local drive (C),hiden files and
folders, system files, and subfolders --> find now
2. After you find the file(s), right click on each file
found, go to rename and rename it as normal.old,
normal1.old and so on until you rename all the files.
Close the search window and try to open Word the way you
normally do.

If you still cannot open Word, check your StartUp
folders. To do that follow:
1. Quit all instances of Word. If you use Word as your e-
mail editor, be sure to quit Microsoft Outlook also.

2. On your Windows desktop, double-click My Computer, and
then locate your Office Startup folder. The default
location is:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Startup

3. Drag each item from the Startup folder to the desktop.
(Or create a folder on your desktop, and drag each item
to this new folder.)
NOTE: To create a new folder on the desktop, right-click
a blank area on the desktop, point to New, and then click
Folder.

4. Find the Word Startup folder. The default location for
the Word Startup folder is:
In Windows XP or Windows 2000:
C:\Documents and Settings\<user
name>\ApplicationData\Microsoft\Word\Startup

In Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows
Millennium Edition (Windows Me) without profiles enabled:
C:\<windows>\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup

In Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows
Millennium Edition (Windows Me) with profiles enabled and
on Windows NT 4.0:
C:\<windows>\<user
name>\ApplicationData\Microsoft\Word\Startup
Drag each item from the Startup folder to the desktop.
(Or create a folder on your desktop, and drag each item
to this new folder.)

5. Start Word.

Hope this helps!
