WORD "NOT RESPONDING"

Someone please help me! I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, Office 2003
and on a network. At various times while using Word, it will freeze up and
say (Not Responding) and I have to force quit the application. This happens
if I try to open more than one Word file, or if I just have only one open and
try to print, or pretty much anytime I'm using Word for more than 5 minutes.
One techy from Dell support told me that I may need to uninstall Office and
re-install, but somehow, i don't think that will work. Has anyone had this
problem with any success on resolving it? Please HELP!

Is it a Novell network? Microsoft network? This seems to be happening
to a lot of people.

Is your default printer an HP printer? If so, try changing the default
printer to something else. Or add a local printer using plain windows
supplied drivers. Make that the default, then if you have to print
select the network printer.

Thank you I will try your suggestions. The default printer is a Brother,
which is NOT compatible with Windows Vista. A Geek Squad associate installed
the printer and added the current drivers in order to run the Brother on this
machine. I may just uninstall this printer and use an HP printer and see if
this resolves the problem.
