When I open a word document it opens every time in a view
that only shows about two inches of the taskbar with the
minimize and maximize button and the x close button, but
nothing else. I can't find anything in tools to 'reset'
this..... please help.

Open two documents and then right-click in the Taskbar and choose one of the
tiling options. Then close one of the documents and use the mouse to make
the window of the remaining document the correct size.

Or right-click on the Taskbar button and choose Move. Press the right arrow
key, then grab the edge of the window and drag it back onscreen.
