Word opens 2 instances of each doc

Greg Morrison

Whenever a word doc or Excel ss is opened by double
clicking, the application displays an error message that
the doc or spreadsheet is already open. This doesn't
happen if the Office application is already open prior to
selecting the file. It only happens when the file is
selected and the associated applicatin is launched by
default.

Windows 2000
Office 97

Problem began after a reboot. Any ideas or things to
check?

Possibly a simple registration problem. Use Start, Run and type in

winword /r

and press enter. Nothing will seem to happen, but Word should reregister in
Windows.

Alternatively, you may have hundreds of temp files clogging up your temp
folder. The temp folder should be totally empty when all applications are
closed. If it isn't, go to documents and settings, username, local settings,
temp and delete all contents.

Thanks Terry. That fixed the Word problem but there must
be a different syntax to re-register excel. Do you happen
to know how to do that or do I need to bounce over to the
Excel forum for that information?

I believe it is the same method but you need to enter 'regserv' in full.

Whoops. I believe that is correct too. Just a slack finger problem!

Terry

: I believe it's /regserver
