word opens all documents as Document1

changed name

Word 2000 is opening every document I have as Document1 nd
when I choose save it opt's to save them as randon
names....what could cause this it is driving me mad.

If you are opening the documents from Windows Explorer rather than from
within Word, the most likely cause is that the default action for .doc files
has changed from Open to New. Right-click on a filename. If you see New in
bold, then that's the problem. Running winword /r would probably fix this,
or you can change it through Tools | Folder Options | File Types.

I hope Suzanne is correct because the other possibility is that you have a
virus that has changed all your Word documents into Templates!
