Word opens in background

When I click on word it opens in the background and I
have to open word again to be able to use it. Have
deleted normal.dot file and restarted it but the
samething happens.

Using Norton Anti Virus? If so, open NAV and disable the Office Plug-in
option.

If not, maybe Word is opening off screen. Open two documents and then
right-click on the Taskbar and choose one of the Tile Options. That will
bring both instances of Word back on screen windowed. You should now be able
to position the pane correctly.

You probably tried shutting down the machine while it was
minimized thus trying to open in its last state.

Maximize Word. Close Word. Now try reopening Word.
