word opens in html. How do I change it to open in standard text

Can't seem to change Word default to open with standard text editing instead
of html. Thanks in advance!

This isn't ringing any bells with me...

Which version of Word are you using? Can you describe what you mean by "html
editing" (as opposed to "standard text editing")?

open a document using the "Recover Text from Any File" setting.
