Word opens with a faulty template

AYJ

I have a number of templates stored on my computer and I would like word to
open with a particular one.
Is there a way to do that or do I always have to do it manually.
Is there a way to delete the template that is stored as normal which is
causing me grief - it's margins are all wrong and I can't fix it.

See http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm.

What do you mean by "I can't fix it"? What happens when you try?

With Word closed, rename normal.dot to .old. When you reopen Word, it will
create a fresh normal.dot. You can customize this one to your heart's
content.

Then, what I do is to change the default font from TNR to something less
ugly, like Verdana and then check the option to make it the default. This
seems to save all my changes to normal.dot as well.

explorer is. I have windows internet explorer but no other explorer. I have
xp computer. Do you mean the "search". I tried that but didn't find the
normal template.

It's essentially the same as the "My Computer" tool or you can press
Windows Key + E to start it.
