Word opens with Headers and Footers hidden

I am not sure what has changed my settings, but when I now open word - the screen is showing with the cursor in the top of the page, meaning the header is not showing - it almost seems like the page is squeezed so only the available writing space is visible
Now the first place to look would be view | Layout - but the system shows it is set to print layout.
I also looked in options - but couldn't find anything that would match this weird setting

In order to get the full page shown, I have to select View | Header and Footer, and then close the Header/Footer

Tools > options > view > check white space between pages.
