Word problem when opening existing doc file

I am using Word 2003 in Win Xp system
When I opened a existing doc file, a dialog box came out.
It says:"The command cannot be performed because a dialog
box is open. Click OK, and then close open dialog boxes
to continue"

Besides, when I used the Equation Editor, I can not edit
the equation I just created. I think these two problems
have some connections.
