Word question regarding letter writing

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: intel

When I start a new Word document to start a letter, I seem to get double spacing (space in between lines). I change it to single spacing but I still get a space b/t the lines. Any advice?

It isn't double line spacing - it's spacing between paragraphs. For details
